I had the privilege of collaborating with Cassandra Tytler again, who is a fantastic video, installation and place-based artist. I’ve always been a fan of roller derby and really enjoyed the sense of community and inclusivity within the sport, so I jumped at the chance to join Cass’s exploration of this.
For the sound design, I used some of the recorded audio from Cass’s time with Perth Roller Derby members, and modified some of them in Audition and Ableton. I wanted to give a sense of movement in the sound, similar to how it might be on the court, and panned three sounds (centre, left, right) to depict three skaters.
Fall.Small.Pivot was shown at FORM Gallery from October 30 – November 25, 2025.
